Review: "Ok Computer" special edition and Red Cliff- (and other-) related frustrations....

May 18th, 2009 (01:53 pm)
current location: Home
current song: Goemon OST

Posted the review of the 2CD+DVD re-release of Radiohead's OK Computer over there

Things decidedly went against me last night. First, hot on the trail of [info]salimbol's recommendation, I was looking into getting the North and South BBC mini-series. Only, I found out they had just started showing it on BBC Four.....five minutes before the first part ended!!!!!!! That was enough to make me want to pull a few hair

Then, I was planning to watch Red Cliff part I (at last!): now, I've bought that absolutely magnificent box they did in Japan, but it doesn't have English subtitles (only Chinese and Japanese - unlike some of the other Chinese blockbusters which also included English subs). So I ordered a dirty cheap version off Ebay which included English subs to watch once in order to get familiar with the story, then to pass over to friends. Only it turns out they've sent part II instead of part I (although the cover pictures are different, it only says it's "Red Cliff", not which part it is), so my whole "let's drool over enjoy having Tony Leung, Takeshi Kaneshiro and Chen Chang together on my screen" plan went down the drain the minute I popped the DVD into my computer player :-( Which I guess will teach me about the consequences of not caring whether or not what I order is a bootleg....

So no Red Cliff for probably another 10 days or so. Oh well, I guess I'll focus on The Wolves, which I've just received, as well as the Seven Samurai Criterion Special Edition instead, at least for the time being. So not that bad all things considered :p

On the other hand, what totally made my day was this report over at Outcast Cinema of an annoucement from Criterion Collection who are goning to publish not one but a box set of five Nikkatsu Action/Noir movies (and all that for an extremely reasonable price!). And they are gonna release it the month of my birthday to boot!!!!!

Music - Radiohead's In Rainbows

October 11th, 2007 (12:11 pm)
drained

current location: work
current mood: drained
current song: "Nude" - Radiohead

OF COURSE, I had to get it yesterday and luckily, my living in Europe means I got a chance to download it before their site crashed. Actually, downloaded it both from home and from work

Maybe the latter wasn't such a good idea, because whenever it plays it completely grabs my attention, even when I think it doesn't

Yesterday's been a funny day. Because everyone, from your average joe to their publicists, got it on the same day, there's been a race for claiming to be the first. First to air a song (won, it seems, by BBC 6 Music), then to publish a review (I honestly haven't got a clue who won that one)

To me however, it seems to go against everything this album is about

Whenever I think about it, so many words are in my mouth, but my throad constricts and I can't get them out. I'm listening to it again, but my mind cannot get around it yet - and I suspect it won't for quite a while

There's one thing that I can say for sure about it though

It is a thing of sheer beauty

Bring it on

Update - Esperiae and DoS (Fanlistings)

June 3rd, 2007 (08:10 pm)
accomplished

current mood: accomplished
current song: We Used to Vacation - Cold War Kids

Yesterday morning, I had my working plan for the day all ready when the unthinkable happened: a major connection problem. I'm being sarcastic here because I've been paying for a ADSL, now DSL service and I've had to connect to dial-up for almost a whole month in whole over the last 3-4 months (and of course, I had to pay the communications on top of my monthly fee for the ADSL service *grrrrr*). Anyhoo, for once, it wasn't just me - my provider, and probably the most important on the national market, had a major technical failure. Let's just say that internet was down for me from circa 9.30 AM to 8.30 PM, so all of my neat plans went down the drain. I love when it does that, especially on weekends....

However, I worked all hours to complete some of the stuff on my list, first of all the arcane magicks and green magicks list: as a result, all the Magicks of FF XII are now listed on my site, including locations. I've also spotted some errors in the NA guide, for those who are using it, just so you know....

Also, made the latest adjutments to the Talk Show Host Fanlisting and am now beginning to work on the one for Midlake. I'm hoping to have it up sometime next week

Finally, I've decided I had too much money *whistle* and started investing it in LOTR cards again (and Buffy's, and FFs, but to a lesser degree). Not only am I completing the collections I already have, but I've started collecting the first artist sketch ones. I'll probably set up a little corner somewhere to post them all, also as a reference for collectors. Which reminds me I'll need to start posting all my FF XII related stuff in the Collector's Corner at Esperiae. I have just bought myself the whole promo cards lot, which means I'll probably sell those I already had for a bargain price - keep your eyes peeled as I'll announce the sale first here. If you are interested and would like to reserve one card, reply here and I'll give you the list of those I'll have for sell

Updates - Esperiae, Dreaming of Stars and announcement

May 27th, 2007 (10:55 am)
exhausted

current mood: exhausted
current song: "Seven Nation Army" - The White Stripes

Hello everyone! I hope you had a great week. Mine's been the same as usual, apart from work where people seemed even more stressed out than usual (speaking about lawyers, that's saying a lot!)

Alright, first the FF XII walkthrough update: 've added the complete time magicks list. Haven't taken the time to re-read it, but it's already late and can barely keep my eyes open. Will do that tomorrow....well, later today :p

Second, I've finally been able to work on one of the three or four upcoming fanlistings at Dreaming-of-stars.net. Haven't even had the time to list them as upcoming yet, sheesh! That one was adopted from Kayleigh and is dedicated to Radiohead's song Talk Show Host (it's not on any of their album, but was a B-side on Street Spirit (Fade out), although there are even more chances you're familiar with it thanks to Baz Luhrmann's "Romeo+Juliet" (I'm refering to the track that's played during the film, not the one on the end credits, which is Exit Music (for a film) and is also on OK Computer). The only thing that's still missing are the codes. And then the original members list to be added....however, you can already join if you wish:

And Nothing - A Radiohead's Talk Show Host Fanlisting

Other upcoming fanlistings include Midlake, Darren Aronofsky's "The Fountain", and Cronenberg's "A History of Violence". Although I'm not sure about that one - received an email a week ago telling me they chose someone else, and now suddenly I receive another message telling me I got it. I'll have to ask the admin at tfl to see what's what :-)

And finally, I can officially announce that I've joined the wonderful team of Eccentricity Online, which is one of the really good Ewan Mcgregor sites out there. Leia's alreay given me a few missions, so I'll probably be quite busy in the next days, although I do plan to continue updatings both the FF XII walkthrough and Dreaming-of-stars. However, my pages on the Jomon culture over at asian-center.net will have to wait until I'm done with the articles section of Eccentricity - which is not necessarily a bad thing, considering I've just ordered a new book on the matter....*g*

That's it for now. Everyone take care ^-^
